Skinny Man To Interview At Noon!

August 17, 2012

Great news on the job-search front: I got through round two of the process for the school in Poland.  First they liked my CV, then they liked my formal application.  Tomorrow at noon, I interview with one of the two owners.  If that goes well, I interview with the other.  I have a good feeling about this school and this job.  It’s so cool that it’s just over the Czech border.

I’ve got some preparation to do before the interview.  They want me to demonstrate some teaching strategies and frankly, I’m a little rusty.  But first, I’m going to take a nice, long walk in the sunshine and treat myself to a meal.  I’ve been very frugal about food, eating simple, inexpensive groceries in my room.

A recent lunch.

Which reminds me… although I haven’t mentioned it in this blog, my friends know that I have lost a lot of weight in the past 10 months.  I don’t have a scale here, but when I left Houston 10 days ago, I was 181 lbs.  (I’m 6′ 1″.)  Today I had to punch a new hole in my belt.

The hole on the left is the new one.  I used to be too big to wear this belt at all!

When I started eating vegan, counting calories, and taking daily walks, (last November), I was 238 lbs.  I’m pretty sure I’m approaching 60 lbs. lost.

Not exactly wasting away, but I am back down into the healthy weight range for my height and age.

I haven’t been counting calories while I’m here, but I don’t think it’s necessary at the moment.  I did it for so long that I know what I should eat, both by knowing how many calories are in different types of food, and by the way I feel after I eat.  When I get settled, somewhere with a kitchen, I will probably be more in danger of overeating again.  So I’ll buy a scale then and monitor my weight, counting calories whenever I go over whatever I decide is my maintenance weight.

Several of you have told me that you really like it when my posts are hopeful and positive.  Today, I am pleased to be able to accommodate your wishes.  I hope tomorrow will be even better!

Wonderful! I’m so happy that you’ve got a lead and it’s the one you wanted. I’ll be rooting for you and my fingers will be crossed for the interview, which will make the surgery difficult but hey, they’re not my appendix*.

As always your weight-loss continues to both amaze and sicken me. I too punch holes in my belts, but at the other end, though I’m sure I could probably stop doing that if I also stopped buying sheets of chocolate the size of the radiator in my front room. Que sera sera. Hey, I wonder how they say that in Czech…

*Joke would be funnier if I were a surgeon.

Wait, you’re not a surgeon? Oh, come off it. I wasn’t born yesterday. What are you going to try and pull over next? There’s no Easter bunny? What kind of a greenhorn do you think I am?

what a pleasant report! It’s such a nice way to start my day.

The interview is over by now, but I hope it went well. You’re a great teacher, so even you in your rustiest form is going to be great!

I just realized that tomorrow = Saturday probably.

      • August 17, 2012 1:55 pm

Yup. Let’s see if I can do this… noon Saturday to me would be 5:00 a.m. Saturday to you. I think that’s right.

And thanks for the encouragement! I’m going to devote the next 18 hours to preparation. I’ve got to look up the difference between the second and third conditional.

You’re welcome. I find some encouragement from the fact that your interviewers want you to be good too. Everyone is hoping the best for you… aside from the other candidates. Screw them. We all hope they find happy employment in another setting.

(Muahahaha… I told you I would use my power to edit for the good. -Ed.)

Sending positive thoughts and energy your way, Dave-Dave! You can do it, I know that you can do it!!! (That was from Vivi….Dora….get it?!?) Perfect example, look at the weight you have lost all on your own without any of them “know it alls” telling you who, what, where, how and when, all the while taking all your mighty fine nickles as they do it!!! (That was from Grendaddy…he would be plum proud of you too!!!) You are sooooo awesome in sooooooo many ways, and I’m very proud of you!

    Can’t wait to hear more….

I wonder what Grendaddy would make of not eating critters. “You mean not even chickens?” I think he would have been a bit mystified, but he would have respected that it was something hard to do.

Thanks for your encouragement and good thoughts. It means a lot to me!

    Ramen: “Vegetable flavour”?
Also? That hot sauce does not look like Siracha. What is it?
Finally…why are there two pieces of Pocky in the bowl with the ramen? 😀

I hope the interview went well! Rooting for you!

Vegetable flavour is great when I can find it, but my next choice is “artificial beef/chicken/spare rib,” because then I know that there’s definitely no meat in it.

Pocky! My wife used to love Pocky. Those are just my manly-man personal chopsticks.
